El-Werhaniyeh is a village in the Chouf district of the Mount Lebanon Governorate. Situated at an altitude of 1,200 meters, it lies 50 km from Beirut and has a population of approximately 2,500 residents. The village is distinguished by its abundant water resources. Its strategic location forms a triangle with the Barouk and Safa springs, granting it a wealth of freshwater sources. One of its areas is aptly named “El-Ayoun” (The Eyes) due to the abundance of springs.
El-Werhaniyeh is also known for its forests, which cover 35% of its area, including hundreds of century-old oak trees, some over 200 years old, alongside mulberry, hawthorn, pine, and other trees. The “Werhaniyeh-Freidis-Barouk Forest Trail” begins in the village, attracting hikers and nature enthusiasts.
The village serves as a cultural and tourism hub. The Assaf Museum, blending the purity of nature with artistic creativity, is a cultural landmark and has been officially recognized as a national museum. El-Werhaniyeh also features guesthouses with a rural charm, offering an authentic experience for eco-tourism and cultural tourism enthusiasts. The preservation of traditional Lebanese architecture enhances the village’s appeal.
